San Diego Odd Eats

I was looking for Oaxacan food on Yelp to see if any options looked appealing for chilaquiles, and randomly came across the Escondido Swap Meet which has a couple food court areas. Fiesta Oaxaquena is one of those places within the swap meet, and I was intrigued because they offer chapulines (grasshoppers).

I'm definitely not an adventuresome eater, but with some encouragement, I ordered a plate of them -- they're fried and coated in lime, salt, and some other spices -- and weren't bad tasting, but it was hard not to be a bit weirded out by eating bugs. I'm glad I broke out of my comfort zone and it's always fun to find something so unusual so close to home.
